Tryiny something different

Playing around at the vise today tried a different hook on my "D" rib golden stone nymph. I have seen a few stones tied a scud hook, so I thought I would give it a try. I like the looks of the fly on the current hook that I use but my current hook is a little week. First needed to figure out what size scud hook compared to the size of hook was comparable to the hook I was tying on. Here are a few pictures of the results. My first impression is I like what I see.  Going to try to get out later this week and give them a try and see if the fish agree.

Bead Storage

Found a slick new way to store all of the different beads that I have. The tray is from a company called Bead Storage Solutions. Here are a few pictures of what it looks like filled up. It also has a clear plastic lid the covers the tray and locks into place. Here is a link to the web site to purchase them.

Tying Videos fro the Tiers Point of View

Just recently came up with a way to short videos from the tiers point of view. I did post a new video for the DH Hopper revised just recently and that was shot from the tiers point of view. I don't know if it makes a difference but I think it will be helpful to the beginning fly tier.  I did get a couple requests to see my set up for shooting videos from the tiers point of view. Here are a few pictures showing my set up. Bought a inexpensive spotting scope mount for a car window and then made a wood stand to mount it too. I'm setting the stand on my key board tray and using a small spring to hold it to the tray. It is actually fairly easing to work around. Please let me know if you have questions

It's Been a while

Just thought I would drop a quick post that I'm still alive and kickin. The blog has taken second fiddle to my job. Hopefully hear in the near future I can turn that trend around.  I have decided to keep the blog up and running.

I just recently added to more tying videos, enjoy and let me know what you think.

Trip report Dream Stream 3/9/14

Quick trip report from a trip down to the Dream Stream on 3/9/14. Dale and I new we where in trouble when we hit Hartsel and the temperature gauge was ready around -15 and -18. We drove down past the main lot and headed down towards the inlet Eleven Mile. River was not fish able down low.
Lower river above Eleven Mile
Moved up to the middle lot and head out to the  river and temp was still around -15. Fished till around 2:30pm, hooked and landed around dozen fish. Most of the fish where 16" to 20" range. The fly that seemed to working the best was a red Span Juan Worm and a size 16 flash pheasant tail. When we left the temp was up to 20 degrees. And when we hit Denver the temp was 70 degrees, what a swing in temps today.
