Electric Chironomid Fly Pattern

Been Playin around with a couple new spin off's from the Yankee buzzer. Really like how these turned out, they show a lot of depth in the fly on the abdomen. The red one turned out super cool. Material lists and how to tie to come at a later date. These look super deadly, would like to come up with a better idea for the wing buds.

  4. Nice. I've been fiddling around with patterns that are based off of Tak's crytal chironomid and the yankee buzzer as well, with good results - especially red. Funny that you mention the wing buds - that is the very area that I would like to improve as well. Brian Yamauchi takes an elaborate approach on his ultra realistic chironomids with forming an actual wing bud outer frame that is then filled with a dyed flexement mixture. Really cool but labor intensive. I've been playing with cutting white razor foam to shape and tying in by the tip. Just an idea.
Are you using Oral-B superfloss for the breathers? That is what I use and works well - BUT - it gets dirty and stains easily.
