Trip report Dream Stream 3/9/14

Quick trip report from a trip down to the Dream Stream on 3/9/14. Dale and I new we where in trouble when we hit Hartsel and the temperature gauge was ready around -15 and -18. We drove down past the main lot and headed down towards the inlet Eleven Mile. River was not fish able down low.
Lower river above Eleven Mile
Moved up to the middle lot and head out to the  river and temp was still around -15. Fished till around 2:30pm, hooked and landed around dozen fish. Most of the fish where 16" to 20" range. The fly that seemed to working the best was a red Span Juan Worm and a size 16 flash pheasant tail. When we left the temp was up to 20 degrees. And when we hit Denver the temp was 70 degrees, what a swing in temps today.

Trip report - 6/14/2011 South Platte River - Deckers

Had the the chance on my birthday to head out and fish. Joesph and I, a coworker took the day and head up to the South Platte at Deckers. Arrived at the Platte about 6:15am geared up and started fishing. Within the first hour we had landed fish. We started out at the fence right below Wigwam Club. The morning started of great and it continued Thur out the day. We end working our way down to the confluence of the north and south fork of the Platte. Stopping quite a few places to fish. What I noticed is how spunky the fish where. We started the day of with nymph rigs and then moved over to hopper, copper & dropper rigs. Could not get anything to take the hopper but the sub surface flies where on fire. What I did notice was that parts of the Platte are making a solid come back.

Trip Report - Antero Res. - 5/5/11

Had the opportunity to call in fishing today, convinced two of my co-workers also to call in fishing. Left bright and early for Antero Res, weather forecast was in our favor today. We arrived at Antero around 8:30 am to very light winds and some what light crowd. Headed for the south shore boat ramp circus, pretty mild today. If you have been there you know what I mean. The day started of well, right out of the chute I hooked up with a real nice rainbow. Kelly started off a little slow but end up with a fury. Dale is fairly new to the lake fly fishing and had a good day.

Second fish of the day, nice cutty.

Kelly's fish of the day. Fat Rainbow

Dale's fish of the day

Fish of the day for me, male rainbow

This was the fly of the day, black chironomid (Buzzer). Olive scuds also worked well.

Trip Report - Sunday 4/3/11 0- The Roaring Fork River

Had the opportunity to hit the water this last Sunday. Was invited to go to the Roaring Fork river with one of my customers and two of his friends. We pulled into Glennwood a little after 7:00am and started heading up the valley. We noticed the water was pretty off color, so we headed up above the Crystal river. Water clarity was better, not great. The morning started off  with a bang, within the first couple hours hooked and landed 6 to 8 fish. Biot Emerger, "D" rib golden stone nymph and Pats rubber leg where the flies of choice. Mid morning the weather turned a little for towards the bad side. We fished at Hooks Bridge and at Cathrine's Store. We did take a little break and went to check out the Frying Pan river. The snow was flat out coming down up on the Pan. Wish I had taken some more pictures. We had a little challenge getting home, I-70 was closed when we pulled into Vail. Come to find out it had been closed since about 11:00am. Shortly after we arrived in Vail they opened the highway.

Trip Report - Antero Res. 5/15/10

Took off early Saturday morning for Antero Res. with great anticipation for a fun filled day of fishing. Kelly one of my co-workers came a long for the ride. We head over for the north shore to set up for the day. We where greeted with this view. Shortly after arriving at the north shore we where greeted by a short lived snow squall. We had a couple of fisherman to the north of us, otherwise we had that area of the lake to ourselves.

First fish of the day, nice fat rainbow.

Close up of the first fish of the day

Red chirnomids and olive scuds seem to work the best. Did catch the last 2 fish of the day on a black UV wooly bugger.

This little gem worked well

Kelly with his first fish, nice little cutty.

Cool Picture

Gotta love Colorado

At the end of the day took a trip over to the south shore, heard some stories that the south shore boat dock was on fire. First thing I thought to myself was this is a three ring circus. The concrete boat dock to left of the ramp was being fished by 6 fisherman. The 10 to 15 minutes we watched this circus I saw 12 fish caught and only two were released. The DOW need to put a full time officer at this lake on weekends. I will get off my soap box now.
