New Scud pattern

Been working on a new scud pattern for a while now. Think I have it where I want it. It is a fairly simple tie. The dubbing mixture is a mix of the SLF spiky squirrel and UV Ice dub. It has the Diamond Hard resin on the back over a scud back. The eyes are a neat touch but you don't need them.

Tour of My flying room

I thought I would do a video tour of my tying room. I have had a request to see a more detailed shot of my beach. He is a video tour of my room. Now remember I've been tying for 25 years, it has taken that long to accumulate all of this.

Silent Auction Fly Box for the Alzheimer's walk

I was asked by a very good friend to a fly box for a fund raiser for the Alzheimer's walk. The box was donated by Montana Fly Company. Juan Ramirez donated a dozen flies to the box, I tied the other 4-1/2 dozen flies in the box. The box will be in the silent auction. If you live in the Denver metro area and would like to come and bid on the fly box.The fund raiser is at the Front Range Inn in Lakewood. The Front Range Inn is located about a 1/2 mile west of Wadsworth on Morrison Rd. They will food and drink plus a car show. All the money goes to a great cause. Stop by and check it out. The fund rasier is on Sunday August 26th from 12:00 to 4:00pm

Product Review Allen Co Cascade Rod and Gear Bag

I have been in the market for a new rod and gear bag. I stumbled across this one by accident. I already own there wader bag and very happy with it. There bags are very well built and very affordable. The Cascade rod and gera bags retails for around $100.00. Zippers are heavy duty and smooth. This bag will hold a lot of gear. One of the neat features is that it will hold 10' rods in the rod section. The section that holds the rods is very protective of the rods. Lots of pockets for what ever you want to carry. So if you looking for quality gear bags for an affordable price check them out. I do know that Sportsman Warehouse carries a few of the bags.

It's Been a while

Just thought I would give a quick update, It's been a while. I have been enjoying my new grandson Jousha, he has been keeping the family busy. He has been a absolute joy he is now almost 4 months old.  Can't wait to get a fly rod in his hands.

Now onto some fishing reports.

Fathers day I was able to take out and hit  Cheesman Canyon for a few hours in the morning. Flows where good at about 195cfs. Fishing was good but not great. I was totally surprised by how empty the canyon was for a weekend. What I also realized was the canyons is one of those place that you need to fish on a regular bases to have confidence. The day started off with a 3 fly nymph rig, took a little to pick up the first fish a feisty rainbow. This is still on of the most scenic places I know.

The Wednesday before fathers day me and Rick took off to south park for a little still water action at Antero. The fishing was some what slow. I was able to test out my new frame less pontoon boat from Creek company.  Did get a killer picture a damsel nymph, I was surprised on how bright green the color was. The cali hatch was pretty slow, saw a few dries.
My new toy. This thing is awesome

The last report was from about 3 weeks ago. Kelly and I took of to the Arkansas river at Hayden meadows. It was a beautiful day for fishing, we had the river to our shelves. Arrived at the river around 8:30am and geared up. The morning started off with a bang and by early afternoon it was fishing real slow. A green caddis larva seemed to be the ticket. Did switch over to a dry dropper, the dropper seemed to be the ticket. Hardly saw any top water action.

Fly of the day
Watching Kelly land this fish was a thing of beauty(not)
Wish I would have video taped it.

finally landed it

I fish a black and olive more than the natural Pheasant Tail nymph. With the advent of the colored beads it adds another level to the Pheasant tail Nymph.

Day on the water

Had the chance on Friday to call in Fishing. Convinced on of my co-workers Kelly to also call Fishing. We headed down to a local South Park fishing hole. First of all the weather was amazing, clear blue skies, warm temps and a slight breeze. The day started of a little slow in the morning, but heated up mid to late morning. The fly of the day was a little red midge tied on a red hook. The crowds did get a little crazy, for the most part everybody polite and courteous. All in all a great day.  Here are a few pics of the day.
